CT Calcium scores only find hard calcified plaque. In the rare case where a patient has just soft plaque, it can be falsely reassuring. This is a small number of patients. The majority of patients with coronary diseases have a combination of soft and hard plaque.

Not everyone needs a calcium score, and it should never replace a comprehensive cardiovascular assessment. Age, family history, existing medical conditions, and individual risk factors all influence whether the test is appropriate. Like any diagnostic tool, it delivers the greatest value when interpreted alongside the broader clinical picture.
